Relinquishing

Relinquishing a Pet to Friends of Scales Reptile Rescue

Everyone has a different reason why they must relinquish their beloved pet. Here at Friends of Scales we believe in making this process as stress free and with as little emotional distress as possible. We all understand that this is a hard decision to make.

To relinquish, contact us at: friendsofscalesrelinquishment@gmail.com and one of our board members will get in touch with you. You will be asked a few basic questions about the age, gender, and health of the animal. A representative will contact you and schedule a drop off time and location in Wheeling. They will work with you within reason to schedule a drop off time that is convenient for both parties. Please, be advised that since we are foster based this will be a residence.

Friends of Scales is a private not for profit organization with limited space and resources. We are very serious about not over-crowding or neglecting the animals in our care, and must turn away reptiles in some cases. If we can not take in your reptile here at the rescue, we'll still help you find a home for it while it remains in your care. As space opens up, we are more than happy to accept your pet in.

Unfortunately, our rescue can NOT accept iguanas, red eared sliders, and painted turtles at this time. Granted, there are always emergency exceptions to this rule, however, there is limited space for "permanent" residents which is what iguanas and red eared sliders become. This is a frequent problem in reptile rescues and sanctuaries.

If you have an aquatic turtle or iguana, send us an email with a picture of your animal, basic information and a way to contact you. We can use our social media to help you find it a home.
